Grant Guidelines
Grants are made to local, national and international organizations. Grants to local organizations are limited to parts of New Jersey. New Jersey grants are restricted to Middlesex, Union, Mercer, and Somerset Counties. Organizations based in New Jersey with regional or statewide scope will also be considered.
The foundation typically awards grants from $500-$25,000 to non-profit organizations with 501(C)3 status. The majority of grants range from $1,000-$10,000.
The trustees review applications on a rolling basis. Applications may be submitted at any time during the year. Proposals that include an E-mail address will receive an E–mail confirmation of receipt of the proposal.
Applicants will be notified by letter of the disposition of their proposal within 90 days of receipt. Successful applicants may be listed on the Foundation's Web site.
The foundation receives a greater number of qualifying requests than it has financial resources to support. As a result, many worthy requests must be declined.
The foundation makes grants in the following categories:
- Capacity Building
- Capital needs
- Disaster relief
- Equipment and materials
- Operating expenses
- Special projects and programs
- Start-ups
We encourage organizations to use our grants as leverage for other grants.
The Foundation may identify and make grants to tax-exempt organizations that have not applied, or may encourage some to apply that have not.
Technical Assistance
Any 501 (c) 3 organization that meets the guideline requirements and is interested in submitting a proposal should first fax or a 1-2 page summary of your request.
It should include organization background, what you do, what your request is for and the amount of your request.
The board will review this letter and inform the organization whether or not we are interested in a full proposal.
This process usually takes about 2 weeks.
Organizations that have not received funding from The Karma Foundation in the past should call for technical assistance before submitting a proposal. Any organization may call (609) 924-5939 or e-mail for information regarding submitting a successful proposal to the foundation.
